Solar Technician, Install Lead

The Solar Technician, Install Lead Position

Sunnova Energy is searching for a Solar Technician, Install Lead to join our team. The Lead’s primary responsibility is overseeing a crew installing solar panels, battery and other associated systems on residential homes to meet all company standards, quality, and performance while providing excellent customer service.

The Lead must ensure all team members abide by all company safety regulations, be adaptable, a good communicator, and comfortable overseeing and working with a team and with homeowners. They need to be familiar with standard photovoltaic rules and guidelines, know how to follow site plans and ensure a clean job site.

Solar Technician, Install Lead Responsibilities

  • Oversees a crew installing PV systems according to engineering designs, permits and electrical code

  • Leads Job Safety Analysis and ensures crew safety and following of all company safety guidelines

  • Ensures installation meets all quality requirements

  • Provides mentoring and training to new team members

  • Submits timely reports through Sunnova software showing project progress, quality and completion

  • Utilizes knowledge, skills, and testing equipment to commission systems and evaluate system issues

  • Identifies solutions to resolve technical design problems

  • Manages vehicle-material stock and equipment inventory

  • Provides training to customers about system operation

    Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or GED)

  • 3+ years’ experience as an electrician, solar installer, or solar maintenance technician

  • Prior experience overseeing a PV installation crew

  • Current, valid Driver’s license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Report

  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English

    Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 Certified

  • 1 + years’ experience in the solar electric industry preferred.

  • Bilingual, English and Spanish

    Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Organized and maintains a professional appearance

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams

    Working Conditions

  • Location varies with job site

  • Estimated 10% travel time

  • Driving required; needs valid Driver's license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record

  • Must be willing to travel for some projects depending on jobsite

    Physical Requirements

  • Long hours spent outside on residential rooftops, driving to customer residences, some ground and rooftop work.

  • Various weather conditions include cold and snowy, hot and humid, and everything in between; must be comfortable working in different environments

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs; assistance may be provided for oversized items

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and drive for up to 8 hours at a time

  • Work postures include reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, squatting, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, and handling objects above/below the shoulder
